The Honda LPGA Thailand is underway, and one of the biggest stories is Lexi Thompson, who got off to a flying start with an opening 64. She eagled the par 5 first and seventh holes, thanks in part to her customary powerful drives.
Lexi, who turned 21 a couple of weeks ago, is hoping to be the first American to ever win the event. She’s currently fourth in the women’s rankings, but a win here could catapult her over third-place Stacy Lewis, setting up a very interesting competition going forward.
“Two eagles definitely helps out the scorecard,” Thompson said. “We couldn’t have asked for better conditions, weatherwise and golf course, so just happy to be out here.”
Amy Yang, who is the defending champion, shot 66 after the first round and and at close of play was two strokes behind.
It’s shaping up to be a great competition! Catch up with her and check out some of her highlights below.
